United have announced today that to the year ended 30 June 2009, they have achieved an solid looking £48 million profit. However, worryingly they have had to pay almost £42 million interest on their half a billion loan, taken out by the Glaziers.
Without the sale of Ronaldo, at a world record of £80 million, United would have made a loss of almost £32 million.
United are paying a ridiculous 14 per cent interest on this monster loan and it is for that reason United are going to issue bonds to replace part of this debt. The bonds would mature in 2017 and would have much lower rate of interest.
This is getting out of hand and within a few years United could be in a serious mess. It is time for the Glaziers to go. Sell to someone with the money to run the club so that the money United makes stays in Manchester United. The fact that £42 million is paid to the interest of the loan make me wonder whether the loan is actually being paid off or is it just the interest.
Either way it is unsustainable. How did the Glaziers ever take over United if they had no money? Can we all just ask the bank for a £500 million loan? I know he owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Maybe he should sell them to cover this horrible debt he has burdened on United.
Is it time up for the Glaziers?
